Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects how kids communicate and interact with their family, peers and environment.

Autism presents differently for each child. Some children may have intense interests or prefer routines. Speech, social communications, sensory sensitivities, and the child’s sense of understanding and fitting into the environment can vary, and each child is different. In some children symptoms are very obvious, in others it can be very mild. Mild autism can be difficult to distinguish from normal variations of human behaviours, like being introvert or hypersensitive.

Assessments for autism require looking into your child’s development, social and communication skills, behaviours and adaptive and executive funtioning skills. Usually multiple assessment tools are needed to make an acurate diagnosis.

Early intervention with tailored environmental adjustments and allied health therapies, like speech, occupational, and behavioural therapy, will help children build skills and flourish.
